If there ever was an album that could feature as a main attraction to a coming-of-age movie, it would be Augustana’s new CD, Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt.
This Southern California band has gained tons of notoriety since their hit single, “Boston,” off the album All the Stars and Boulevards, blew audiences and critics away.
And these Illinois natives created Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt with the aim to capture that coming-of-age sensibility – basically, finding love and coping with adulthood.
The music on Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt has an extremely down-to-earth and soft quality to it: the piano-driven rock tunes are backed up by lead vocalist and pianist Dan Layus’ lyrics, which speak about love, growing up and coping with the world around you.
This album is really pleasing, and it’s the kind of melody best enjoyed while laying atop a car hood with a partner and watching the stars coast by on a clear night. So, by all means, light some candles and throw this in the CD deck (or iPod), because you’re bound to have a romantic night ahead of you.
