The Maryland duo works in tandem to create an album that speaks real lyrics with a dirty, gritty basement-cut feel. Jason “t.E.C.K.” Fields lays down beats, scratches and samples to provide all forms of beats for Cole “Seez Mics” Policy to dominate with his lyrical prowess.
“Write/Hear” has a catchy take on old school. Many of Seez Mics lyrics shadow what rap used to be about: life in the street. Granted, Fields and Policy are two guys from Maryland, but that doesn’t stop them from talking about getting up to work an eight hour shift to pay rent, having food to eat and a girl to love, and the internet sales bringing in enough. This album is not about going clubbing, drinking or abusing woman, and that is something I can respect.
“I write it, and then I record it. Then I seize the microphone so I can perform it,” says the first song off Write/Hear. “And as long as you’re right here willing to support it, Make some noise if you’re ready to enjoy it. Right here.”
This group is still in the underground, and I honestly hope that they do not sell out to big labels. Hopefully the Educated Consumers will pass on some knowledge and return rap to its roots – the streets.
