Many of us have visited Disney World, but what would it be like to actually make dreams come alive? Fortunately, there is an opportunity working for a Fortune 100 company where the amount of knowledge you’ll learn is to infinity and beyond.
Psychology major Natalie Cheever is one of the Disney College Program campus representatives who help hire FAU students who have the potential to make magic. “The Disney College Program is one of the best experiences out there. It gets your foot into the door of a great company,” Cheever says, who has been working for Disney for almost two years.
The Disney College Program Internship is a five to eight month paid internship, where students work at the Disney World Resort in Orlando. The company will be interviewing at the FAU Davie campus on Wednesday, April 9, at 1 p.m. The program is open to sophomores and higher with any college major. The 27-year-old program has been the start for many Disney employees.
Even though Cheever is a psychology major, she says that the program is great for any field of study.
“Disney has really helped me in the practical aspect of psychology,” she says. “The role helped me to think quickly and act professionally to solve guest situations.”
Every semester, Disney recruits five to 10 FAU students. According to the internship’s Web site, Disney is looking for outgoing students who have the ability to provide exceptional guest service and are always smiling.
After the internship ends, if the student wants to come back to Disney, professional internships are available.
Besides the corporate opportunity, Cheever says the three- hour drive from FAU is convenient.
“Having home close by isn’t a bad thing, because if you ever need anything from home, it’s [not far] away,” Cheever says.
Working in Orlando has several benefits. Interns are given free admission into the theme parks and discounts at restaurants, hotels and gift shops. Disney also provides transportation to and from work.
Along with that, Disney also provides housing for its interns within a couple miles from the resort. Housing for the interns have several amenities such as gated security, pool access, a workout gym and wireless internet connectivity.
Right now, Disney is recruiting for the fall program. The deadline is late April, but Cheever recommends it’s best to get the application in early.
