American Idol Comes to Boca

For some, Kelly Clarkson’s My December tour is well overdue. After postponing her summer concert due to low ticket sales, Clarkson and her crew took a couple months to “re-evaluate” the tour, according to her official Web site. However, wait no more. America’s favorite Idol is coming to the Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca Raton on Nov. 29.

The tour, entitled My December after her recently released third album, promises to bring a fresh and exciting repertoire of well-known and new songs.

“It’s the end of something and the beginning of a new era, a fresh start,” Clarkson says about her new songs on her Web site. “My December album is like a movie about me, it’s my story.”

My December reveals personal experiences of Kelly’s life in the last two years, such as winning a pair of 2006 Grammy Awards and performing a show-stopping version of “Because of You.” She was also awarded four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, a People’s Choice Award and 11 Billboard Music Awards.

But all this fame took a toll on her personal relationships thus inspiring her to write more “soul-searching” songs for this album.

“The record is about me, why I make the decisions I do,” Clarkson says on her Web site. “Most of my songs are about what’s happening in my life. For me, it’s like free therapy. Whether it’s me growing or helping someone else get through similar circumstances.”

Clarkson amazes critics with her powerful and unique vocals, which are well suited to her personal and soulful new album. “It’s cool for me to sing things that are from my head and heart and that people can relate to,” Clarkson continues on her site.

Clarkson demonstrated enormous success with her first album in 2004, Breakaway, which sold six million copies in the U.S. and 11 million world-wide. With hits such as “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because of You” and “Walk Away”, Clarkson has proven her undeniable talent and popularity as an artist.

Since Clarkson’s debut as the winner of the first season of American Idol, the talent show format has surged forth as format that people are emulating. Here at FAU we held our own idol contest, sponsored by Owl TV, where students could audition for the chance be the next FAU Idol. Dozens of students participated, and after two auditions, there are 31 candidates left standing.

The finale of the contest, which will be held next Feb., will have five finalists and the winner will receive an array of prizes including a chance to record with FAU’s record label, Hoot/Wisdom Recordings. You can watch the audition tapes on Facebook by joining the group Owl TV and vote by email at [email protected]

Maybe Clarkson can inspire those candidates vying for the chance to make it as an FAU idol to keep following their dreams through her own story.
