The hunt is on as FAU starts the hiring process of three new administrative positions that will work directly with students. While Student Government has never had a full-time adviser, and the three student media outlets have never been formally organized together – all that is about to change.
The new director positions will do more than supervise student media (OwlRadio, OwlTV and the University Press) and SG; they will also act as advisers, offering guidance and support to the students who are part of these organizations.
The search committee process starts by short-listing the candidates based on their applications and resumes. The top five or six applicants are interviewed via phone by the search committee, after which they are narrowed down again, and the top two to three candidates are brought to FAU. After receiving a tour of the campus, the top candidates will be subject to questioning by anyone in the student body who wishes to participate. At the end of this process one candidate is chosen and hired for the position.

Director of Student Media Board
With 18 applications received, the search committee met Friday to hear the charge, or what a good candidate would be, from Interim Associate Dean of Student Affairs Terry Mena. The committee discussed the role of the already existing advisors, an ideal candidate and what the director would be doing.
Committee Chair and Assistant Director of Student Life and Recreation Heather Bishara says this is a common position at other colleges.
She added, “I believe this position will be an excellent advocate and resource to the students of FAU: They will assist in taking student media to the next level . . . [and] encourage greater collaboration.”
Director of SG
Further along in the process, the director of SG search committee has already participated in phone interviews.
Tony Teixeira, student body president and committee member, says the position “will be a liaison between Student Government and Student Affairs . . . someone who will work for us and with us,” adding that many other universities have this position.
Larry Faerman, assistant director of housing and committee chair, says the position is a “significant . . . commitment of Student Government and Student Affairs,” in addition to being “symbolic of a positive partnership for the present and future.”
