Summer comes and goes quickly here at FAU. If you take the time to blink, you may miss some interesting star actors that will be showcased in the 2007 summer theater line-up. The plays consist of a mix between graduate students and three actors from the Actors’ Equity Association: Kathryn Johnston, Peter Haig and Bruce Linser.
Johnston has made appearances on the hit TV shows Spin City and Welcome to New York.
Peter Haig has been named best actor twice by New Times, which had positive reviews for his performance in Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. “Haig has always chosen intelligent roles, so it’s worth your while to choose his performances whenever they pop up.”
Haig is also a Carbonell Award winner and appeared on Broadway in Dr. Cook’s Garden.
Bruce Linser is scheduled to be in the film Bumping Off Burt, which is currently in production. He has also made an appearance in the 1999 film Drop Dead Gorgeous starring Kirsten Dunst. When asked about his upcoming performance in Noises Off, Bruce was excited about to be apart of it.
“The script is hysterical,” Bruce says. “So it should be a lot of fun to do as well as to see.”
The summer’s line-up will include two theatrical comedies: Bye, Bye, Birdie and Noises Off. Along with the musical comedies, there is a musical revue entitled American Songbook: Irving Berlin. Also, the music department is presenting an American Songbook Revue: 1930-1965. Noises Off, the FAU 2007 summer comedy debut, opens on June 22, at 8 pm and runs through July 28. The play, directed by Jean-Louis Baldet, is an action packed physical comedy encompassing the mishaps of a traveling theater company’s production of a show entitled Nothing On.
Bye, Bye Birdie is a Tony award winning musical satire on American Society written by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams. Bye, Bye Birdie opens July 7 at 2 pm and runs through July 29. The premise of this play centers on Conrad Birdie, a 1950’s rock and roll superstar who gets drafted into the army.
For all of you music fans, The American Songbook: Irving Berlin opens June 29 at 8 pm and runs through July 21 on the FAU Boca campus.
