Matthew JarrettBoca Raton I believe in FAU. Florida Atlantic University is on its way to becoming a first choice institution. One of the first steps I will take to enhance FAU is by having more on campus events. I will do this by collaborating with the Boca House of Representatives, the Program Board and also by working with administration. Unity within student government is very important in relations to student participation and attendance at any event. Also, with the renovation of the commuter cafeteria, students will see significant improvements in the quality of food. Another issue I intend to take on is student rights. As a student of this university I believe in having my voice acknowledgedand my concerns be taken seriously. I will do my very best to insure that students can see me any time they feel it is necessary. As I’ve said before FAU is going through a transition, so with the addition of more on campus events, and unity within the Boca Campus, FAU will prosper.
Paul LoweTreasure CoastThe 2007-2008 school year has begun, and the Treasure Coast Campus Student Government is ready for the exciting year. The Treasure Coast Campus has been growing steadily over the last few years. Through hard work and dedication to the students, the Treasure Coast Student Government will ensure no voice will unheard. We will make sure that students know they have advocates for them in student government and that we are there for the sole purpose of representing the students and their perspective. We will also represent the community with much philanthropy, which will increase the reputation of student government as well as Florida Atlantic University as a whole. With the students in our hearts the university on our minds we are dedicated to the next year and will not be deterred of our aspirations and goals.
Ed FultonJupiterI plan to use the experience gained in my first term to make 2007-2008 even more of a success than the previous year. Streamlining the cabinet is my first goal, reducing the number of agencies without cutting student jobs, making the entire organization simpler and more efficient. I would also like to increase focus on recreational programming, which might help to improve student retention. I believe in accessibility, so like last year my cell phone number will be posted outside of the SG door, and it will ALWAYS be on. My staff will be composed of professional, courteous, and intelligent people that care about our university. The website will be maintained and updated this year, and I also plan to continue pushing for the construction of a carbon-neutral and financially sustainable fitness center on our campus. I look forward to a great year at FAU! GO OWLS!
Priscilla VelasquezBrowardMy name is Priscilla Velasquez. I am the new elect Student Body Governor for Broward Campuses. I am a junior, and my major is International Business & Trade. I am originally from Peru; and I am part of the international student community. My main goal is to improve the image that Student Government portrays. We, as Student Government are representing the students. We are their voice. I would motivate students to be part of the university and to increase their involvement. Student Government can achieve this by doing more advertising and having more interaction with the students. Asking them what needs to be done, what events are being held, and what has been done. I hope to achieve these goals during my term as governor. I am looking forward to it. I believe this is a great opportunity to give back to students and to better develop my leadership skills.
