Boca Helping Hands Helping Hands serves meals and distributes grocery items to low-income families and individuals, assists in finding jobs to help people break the cycle of dependence, provides sandwiches to children in low-income after school programs and much more. The main qualification for a Boca Helping Hands volunteer is a caring heart and willing to help those in need. They need people to work in the kitchen, helping cook, serve and clean up, to deliver hot meals to shut-ins and homebound residents, to help make sandwiches or to help screen and process those seeking financial aid and/or employment assistance. Adellson Scholars ProgramThe Adellson Scholars Program is available to students between the ages of 16-25 who are attending, or in the process of being admitted to, an accredited college or university program in 2007. You must submit an essay of no less than 250 words on one of the topics listed on the sponsor’s Web site at www.adellson.com/awards.htm. Deadline for application is June 15 and the maximum award amount is $5000.
Atlas Shrugged Essay ContestThe Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest is open to undergraduate students. To participate, you must read the novel and write an essay on a selected topic that can be found on the Web site. Essays are judged on both style and content. The winning essay must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of the book Atlas Shrugged. Complete contest guidelines are available on the www.aynrand.org/contests/atlas.html. Award amount ranges from a minimum of $50 to a maximum of $10,000, and the deadline to apply is September 17.
