Florida Atlantic University provides many programs for students who need financial aid. For the last fifteen to eighteen years there has been a program known as the Book Loan Program.
The main idea is to help FAU students for a temporary time who are not able to buy books and other school materials on their own. The books will be given on a first come first serve basis. When collecting these books students need to have with them their: FAU identification card, current class schedule, the books title, edition, and author. This program is run by the Multicultural Affairs Office and led by Doctor Qaisar Abbas. When being asked about this program Doctor Qaisar Abbas supplied these answers. The book loan program benefits all students by allowing them to donate books but it mostly benefits students on financial aid or on scholarship. Any books can be donated as long as the courses are still using them and the students will get good use out of them.
There is however one big problem for the Book Loan Program. The student government has been funding the program for the last fifteen to eighteen years and has recently decided not to back funding for it anymore.
Unfortunately this is going to limit the program by only allowing students with the lowest rate of income get books. To help out this situation many faculty and administrators have been contacted about donating books and in the near future the publishers are also going to be contacted about donating some of their books. Even though the funding is getting cut the Multicultural Affairs Office would like to keep the program running.
“The book loan program is a good idea, but as far as the funding goes I have no idea how to make the student government change their mind because there are a lot of other programs that need funding and they cannot fund them all.” says Christina an FAU student. Josh another student claims “I like the book loan program and I think it’s great for the students on financial aid, I’m sorry that their funding is being cut though.”
