Had FAU won just one more game this season, they would have finished the season 6-6 and been bowl eligible.
The pivotal loss came on Nov. 4, when they faced Middle Tennessee State for the chance to go to the Motor City Bowl in Detroit, Michigan. FAU came out strong early in the game, driving to the three-yard line, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity for a touchdown and missed a field goal attempt.
The Owls’ inability to score gave MTSU the momentum, and the Blue Raiders won 35-14. In their conference, FAU finished 4-3-good enough for a third place tie with Arkansas State who was the winner of the Sun Belt in 2005. The Owls’ overall record was 5-7.
The Owls’ two-year total of six wins in the Sun Belt is more than three other Sun Belt teams-FIU, Louisiana-Monroe, and North Texas. Stay tuned because if they continue on this track, the Owls could earn a bowl invite in 2007.
Two Owls Named All-Sun Belt
Owls’ Nello Faulk, a senior offensive lineman, and Josh Pinnick, a junior defensive lineman, were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team. Only 22 players from the eight Sun Belt football programs-Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, and Troy State-are honored as All-Sun Belt.
