FAU director of development for the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, Jeff Spoeri, will now make his third televised appearance on the game show next week. Jeopardy, also known as “America’s favorite quiz show,” since its syndicated debut in 1984, has won 27 daytime Emmy Awards – which is more than any other syndicated game show.
“The first thing I did was take an online test,” said Spoeri, whose quest to be on Jeopardy began in March. “This was the first time they ever had an online qualification test.”
After Spoeri took the online test, he waited. Two months later, Spoeri received an email asking him to attend a personal audition in Orlando.
Spoeri, who lived in Melbourne at the time, decided to attend the audition where several tests were conducted. “A mock game, as well as a written test and a personality interview,” Spoeri said.
He, and 1,600 other Jeopardy hopefuls, then waited to hear the results. Only 400 contestants could advance to the big screen.
Then in August, five months after he took the online test, Spoeri was contacted by a Jeopardy producer in Los Angeles to be part of the show.
Spoeri went to California and taped the shows in Sept. He won his first two rounds, which aired Nov. 6, and 7 and was asked to return a third time. His next appearance will be aired Nov. 22.
