The FAU Owls (7-7-2, 4-4) dominated the Troy Trojans (1-7,2-11-1) 6-0 during Senior Day on Oct. 15. The women were lead by Tessa McGarrity and her three goals and a suffocating performance by the Owls defense, which allowed zero shots on goal. It was the 150th win for Head Coach Brian Dooley, and as Senior Beckie Ware remarked, “He’s a great coach, and we love him to death.”
During Senior Day, the team celebrated the contributions of seniors Megan Coyne, Christina Chang, Christina Rodriguez, Beckie Ware and Meredith White. Coyne started in goal and was her usual vocal self. Chang assisted on a second half goal. Ware scored a goal in the first half, and Rodriguez played great, registering a shot on goal. White, who is coming off a torn MCL, got a few minutes of playing time, “I felt like Rudy,” she remarked.
With the win the Owls have secured their position for the Sun-Belt Conference tournament and moved closer to taking over the 5th seed held by Loisiana-Lafayette. The The Owls’ win on Senior Day was their third in a row and Coyne said she feels that “we are starting to find our rhythm.”
After the game, the seniors thought about their time at FAU. When asked about her emotions Chang, responded, “I didn’t cry, because we have a lot more games to play”, referring to the possibility of winning the Sun Belt Tounrament and going to the NCAA Tournament.
Rodriguez thought the day was “sad, but exciting.” She will be leaving FAU and going to graduate school with a degree in finance. Goalie Coyne, who posted a 4th lowest goals against average in NCAA history last season, is hoping to “help out coach and players next season.”
Coach Dooley is sad to see this class go. “They are leaving us with a lot of good memories,” he said.
