What Happened: Scripps came to an agreement with FAU for plans to put a branch of the Scripps Institute on the Jupiter campus. The Scripps Institute will be placed on the eastern end of the Jupiter campus and will deliver over 500 jobs to the community, according to Bob Friedman, university architect and former vice president. The Jupiter campus will give the institute 30 acres, which will house three buildings and 1,000 parking spaces.
What’s New: A second temporary building has been built, and scientists are planning to move in on September 18, according an August 13 Sun-Sentinel article. Palm Beach County has put up the $13 million needed for the building, and FAU will pay back $12 million and keep possession of the building. Construction on the permanent buildings is expected to start this winter. The projected move-in date is in early 2009, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
