The elections are over and if you don’t already know Dan Wilson and the Integrity party won. If I wasn’t involved with the university press, I really wouldn’t have known much about either party. But, I was fortunate enough to hang out on the breezeway both April 12 and 13 to get in on the election action.
Let me tell you something about the election days and both parties. I thought they were run fairly well; a side from the hundred or so that wasn’t counted. But, the Integrity party applied quite the contrary tactics and still managed to win. For one, on their hand out cards, they insulted themselves by misspelling “governer” and printing the wrong dates.
I never really got a chance to really interact and meet the integrity party because they were pretty much sticking to their clique and seemingly convinced they were going to win. I suppose their confidence served them well. And maybe they really didn’t want to talk to me because they knew me or because they thought I was a bored, uninterested student. Who knows?
I was fortunate enough to meet some of the candidates that supported the Atlantic party. I’m hoping those who didn’t win will stay active and try again next year. From what I saw they were some bright students who were looking for some sincere change and were doing whatever they could for their cause.
Free popcorn, pizza, and some Pepsi after some talking, I made my decision. I went over to the nice elderly ladies from the Women’s Voter League and got my name checked off and cast my vote.
To be honest, I think Dan Wilson and his party is going to embarrass FAU. Well, I really don’t know him, but he claims to stand for integrity and “fiscal responsibility,” but when you can’t even make a “vote for me” card with your friends without a few mistakes, how well can you possibly run an office?
I had a girl tell me she was voting for Dan Wilson because he was cuter then Brett Dell. I’m sure she wasn’t the only girl who said that. All I can say is I really hope people don’t have that kind of mindset four years from now.
Putting all that aside, I’m looking forward to a year full of student government mishaps, trials and tribulations. Take a seat, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show.
