It always seems to me that the spring semester goes by far quicker than the fall; some of you may or may not agree with me. But what is it about the spring that most of us love so much? I mean its just another season right? Wrong.
Shall I begin by emphasizing the weather, the sunshine and the cool afternoon breeze, or would it be enough to simply say that spring is a precursor to the laziest season of all, summer? In March most of us long for some sun, heat and beach weather, but then comes April and early May which unfortunately coincides with final exam period. What were they thinking when they made up the exam timetable, did they really think we would have the concentration needed to focus on exams? How could we, when we would all prefer lying on the beach or by a pool sipping on a pina colada?
Most of us want to be outdoors in the spring and event planners are well aware of this fact. The Winter Music Conference was held in Miami a few weeks ago; house music lovers from all over the globe arrived in sunny Miami taking advantage of the upbeat vibe and the warm weather. It should no mystery then why the “winter” music conference is held in a city that practically has no winter.
Our very own FAU also loves the spring! The international students’ office organizes the Festival of Nations in the spring, an outdoor cultural celebration so students and the community can come together and enjoy a taste of the world with food and ethnic entertainment. The FAU surf club organizes surf lessons weekly, for those of you who are interested in riding those waves.

So for those of you who don’t agree that the spring semester goes by quicker, you may find that getting involved and attending outdoor activities speed things up. After all, isn’t always the case that when you are having fun it just does not seem to last? I believe so – spring at last!
