It’s that time of year again when students at Florida Atlantic University undergo a certain illness I like to call Spring Fever. The sun stays out longer, the weather is warmer, and suddenly going to class doesn’t seem like the number one priority. I don’t know what it is, but this time of year almost kills everyone’s academic performance.
After Spring Break, coming back to school is quite a daunting task. Midterms are over and most of everyone’s class requirements are out of the way. This leaves a sense of feeling like school is over, yet the harsh reality is that it’s not. I came to realize this when I received back an extremely low grade on a test. With only a month left of school, everyone finds themselves trapped in a lazy state of mind. We have all worked tediously throughout the whole year and it feels like it’s time to slack off.
Just remember that every grade counts and that it’s not over till it’s over! I have some helpful tips for you. Since the weather is beautiful and we all can’t help but desire to enjoy it, why not take your books to the beach or pool? Some of my best reading has been done right on the beach, with the gentle sound of waves crashing behind me. Another helpful tip is to get your work done early. When you know you have a day off of school or no classes during the day, reserve that day to do something fun.
Do your work the night before or whenever you have a free moment. I find that reserving Sundays for schoolwork, laundry, and other necessary tasks helps me out a lot. Most of the time, I’m burned out from the week and whatever I got myself into Friday and Saturday, so Sunday is the ideal time to relax and get some work done. Go to the library and do your best to focus on assignments that are due in the coming week.
Springtime is a hard time to concentrate on all that needs to be done, but remember that school is almost over and you still have all summer to kick back and relax. We live in Florida, so the good weather isn’t really an excuse to slack off in school.
Good luck and hope to see you all on the beach…with some books.
