All settled into his office now, President Bush has a quest of reconciliation on queue already less then two months into his new term. A new agenda on hand, Bush is on his way to tour Europe to reconcile with several leaders from different countries. The war on Iraq had caused some bitter disagreement between some European countries and the United States. Bush is going to begin his tour in France to reconcile relations between French President Jacques Chirac and himself.
They want to wipe the slate clean and settle their differences on the Iraq issue. While that may be a good run of events, this leads me to believe that Bush has other plans. While we must find out whether Iran plans to use nuclear capabilities for military use or just power, Bush claims he’ll go a diplomatic route, but hasn’t left out the possibility of using the military.
Circumstances lead me to believe another war might be on the rim, and I don’t think the U.S. could handle it, let alone the rest of the world. Especially since Iran has a strong military force. Not nearly as formidable as the U.S.’s forces, but casualties would far surpass those reached in Iraq if we were to go into Iran.
If Bush reconciles with European nations, which would be a positive statement for the U.S., then hopefully Iran will give up their nuclear program or just let the U.N. inspect it. Perhaps our President might actually be going about diplomatically to correct a situation. Maybe instead of jumping into an unnecessary war with a hostile country, our president is trying to get support of other countries to concentrate his point. Has our president learned his lesson about jumping into wars? In a world full of nationalists, an alliance might just be what we need to build back morale to run a safer, better world.
As it is half the country doesn’t like Bush, but his popularity around the world is even dimmer. With an alliance, maybe our President can redeem himself, to some degree, to help make our country less of a crueler capitalistic black hole of a place then it already is. No one knows what the future holds, but a strong international alliance can’t hurt; can it?
