Shine up your dancing shoes because the largest student run philanthropic event is coming to FAU. The fourth annual Children’s Miracle Network’s Dance Marathon will be held on March 19 and 20 in the FAU Gymnasium.
Themed, “Dance a Night for Children’s Lives”, students, families and children will dance from 7 p.m. Saturday and continue until 11 a.m. Sunday. The proceeds will be contributed to the Shand’s Children Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Lisa Castellano, a member of the FAU Volunteer Center and one of the dance coordinators, said that “children have a great time; it’s like having older brothers and sisters.”
Even donations of a dollar or two are great contributions to organizations such as the Miracle Network. Over the last four years the FAU Dance Marathon has raised $2,250. Dances are held nationwide at a number of Universities. Since it’s founding at Penn State in 1973 the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization, has raised a total of $2 billion.
The children receiving treatment and care from any of the Children Miracle Network’s 170 hospitals suffer from cancer, sickle cell anemia, AIDS, muscular dystrophy and other major illnesses. The mission of the Children’s Miracle Network is to coordinate fundraisers and develop public awareness programs. The families attending the dance receive their care from Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville, which will benefit from the proceeds raised at FAU’s dance marathon.
