The beach, the clubs, the classes and the movies – all these places can become routinely monotonous. It’s not too hard to become bored, even in “paradise”. So what do you do? Go to the fair!
The South Florida Fair, Florida’s third largest fair, is more like a theme park. An annual event, the fair just keeps getting better each year.This fair gives you an opportunity to go see things you don’t usually experience, like bears swimming in small pools, racing pigs, and musicians playing on garbage. It’s one of the few times where weird stuff is normal and tastes great.
Once you step foot on the fairgrounds you’re completely surrounded by all kinds of entertainment. Thousands of Mexican-Americans showed up to see one of Mexico’s biggest bands, Los Tucanes De Tijuana rock the fair. The fair’s repertoire consists of a variety of musical genres. Whether you like Mexican rock or garbage, it’s all here.
Four garbage cans, a couple five gallon buckets, a shopping cart, and three guys with drumsticks equals a jam-fest in the middle of the “Thrill Zone”. Repercussion, a musical group and that plays on garbage cans and scrapped pots and pans shows the fair audience that real music is a ritual and is not dependant on fancy instruments. Our group “proves that music doesn’t have to cost money,” David Beach, on of the three ‘garbage rockers’ out of L.A. says.
This fair has more than shows and rides, “its backbone is in showcasing agriculture,” John Picano, the PR representative for the South Florida Fair says. This is Picano’s ninth year working for the South Florida Fair, and, “his most favorite thus far.” “Palm Beach is one of the leading agricultural counties in the U.S. and this fair reveals that there is more than just beaches and golf courses here,” Picano says.
A new addition to the fair grounds, the 51,000 square feet “Agriplex” houses livestock and other agricultural exhibitions for fair goers, even a maternity tent where calves are born.
Next year around this time, if you’re suffering from a bad holiday hang over and things are becoming a little boring, go to the fair and munch on some Elephant Ears and soak up the entertainment that’s sure to be there at the fair.
