The FAU swim team came out strong in their Jan. 14 meet against Puerto Rico and the UNLV. Sophomore Geni Burts beat up the competition with first place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:19.23) and the 400-yard intermediate medley (4:27.83). Freshman Jessica Lampkin also had a strong day finishing first in the 100-freestyle (53.17) and first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.44). Freshman Shawna Griffith earned a first place finish as well in the 200-yard butterfly (time 2:05.85).
The women’s relay teams took home first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Valeria Dalmastro, Valerie Devanney, Elizabeth Gregory, and Jenny Harms finished first with a time of 1:43.53 which just beat the team of Freshmen Brittany Fabry, Danielle Kuykendall, Colleen Lehane, and Sophomore Lisa Plotkin who finished second just over six seconds behind.
Sophomore swimmer Eren Onurlu swam strong for the men’s team winning the 100-yard freestyle (47.65). Freshman Matt Brody brought in a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.67). Junior Kenny Anderson and Senior Rich Marzonie went neck and neck in the 100-yard butterfly. Anderson pulled off the victory with a time of 52.33. Freshman Jonathan Pinto destroyed the competition in the 400-yard IM (4:25:39).
The relay team of Anderson, Brody, Marzonie, and Junior Pavel Babaev brought in a first place finish in the 200-freestyle relay (1:25.99). The men’s team also took a second place finish for FAU in the 200-medley relay.
All of this comes on the heals of fine performances at the FAU hosted Winter Invite in December culminating in Freshman Nick McMahon being named the Sun Belt Diver of the Week, a first for FAU swimming and diving.
