FAU Police recently arrested a student from Boca Raton’s Olympic Heights High School following a two-month investigation. The student ran his operation out of his mother’s car and only needed a few slips of paper, a T-shirt and a digital camera to make the IDs.
FAU student Kenny Menzel, 18, had charged other students $60 for a fake ID but never produced them. The buyers then informed the police that they had been ripped off. When questioned, Menzel cooperated with police and told them that he was peddling the fake licenses for a high school student.
Menzel assisted FAU police in an undercover operation to meet and purchase an ID from the high school student.
Fake driver’s licenses have been a growing problem at FAU and can be possibly hazardous to students. “We’re very concerned over the amount of ID’s we’ve confiscated,” says Lieutenant Chuck Aurin of the FAU police department. “We hope to curb the potential problems they cause.”
