I’ve known quite a few Marines in my day, Army dudes too. The worst thing for them is a tour of duty with no war. All of their training would go to waste. No kills to make them men or heroes, no cool stories either. As for the Iraqis, I think it’s safe to say that they aren’t a pack of innocent shepherds that are surprised to see our battalions landing on shore. They’ve chosen their war as well. Everybody hates everybody. At least we Americans and Iraqis are being honest about it.
Some say boxing is a barbaric sport, but I’ll watch it. I mean, if you’re dumb enough to enter a ring with the sole purpose of pounding another man’s head in at the risk of losing your own senses, then by all means – be my guest. I’ll wager $20, along with a few beers, and that’ll qualify as a night. A suicide bomber knows the risk just like an enlisted soldier.
All that being said, beyond the shear bravado of a good war is money and riches. I’m the last guy who’s going to stand in the way of a man trying to make a decent living. Some make scented soaps; some write pointless articles, some build weapons of mass destruction or take over other countries. It’s an industry. It takes a good deal of study. I say to each his own.
Now I know there are some out there that say that while it’s true that a few good men love a good war that there are other, innocent people being killed. Tell that to a tsunami. Everybody’s got a destiny and not even a war or a monstrous tidal wave can break it. I was reading about a fisherman in Sumatra discovered half-drowned three days after the efforts to find survivors of the tsunami had turned up empty. God works in mysterious ways.
So, my point is if you’re for the war, pick up arms and go fight. If you’re against it, don’t. But can everybody shut-up about it already.
