On Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, the FAU volleyball team earned at least a share of the Atlantic Sun Conference title while setting a team record with 18 wins in one season. The Owls defeated UCF 3-1, after dropping the first set 30-28. Iana Andonova led the offensive charge with a .500 hitting percentage and only three errors.
Kelly Paiva had 13 digs and 13 kills in the match for her 12th double-double of the season. Andonova finished with 23 kills, Cayse Kaveny with 19, Janelle Sarauw with ten. Five defensive players finished the night with double-digit digs including Lindsey Bell, Makra Condill, Courtenay Kiebert, Pavia and Lauren McHugh.
Until Friday, the Owls lost eight straight games to the Knights, dating back to 2000. Ironically, before Friday, the last time the Owls beat the Knights was in the 1999 A-Sun Championship game.
The win moved the team to 18-4 on the season, with a perfect 8-0 record in the conference.
On Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, the Owls extended their winning streak to six straight games while continuing to set the record for most wins in a season, which now stands at 19. Andonova and Paiva helped the Owls win 3-0 over the Wildcats with 15 kills each. Kaveny finished with ten kills, while Condill and Bell had 13 and 12 digs respectively to lead the defense.
The Owls will play Arkansas State next on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at home. After that, the team is off to the conference championship tournament on Nov. 19 and 20, which is held in Orlando. The winner of that tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
