Your first day at FAU can be more than a little bewildering. Orientation itself is like trial by fire — registering for classes that are available one minute and closed the next, traipsing around campus trying to remember all of the buildings, and standing in lines — at the bookstore, Owl Card center, financial aid, and in the Administration building. It’s not uncommon to find new students huddled alone in a corner, whimpering-and that’s before they’ve even set foot in a classroom.
Each year, the University Press creates a New Student Edition for freshman and transfer students, to help them get to know the university better.
This year, we focused on “FAU secrets” — things that everyone can learn from — whether you’re an incoming freshman or a senior on the six-year plan. We filled this issue with facts that surprised even us, including fun things to do on campus, what’s going on with all the construction on campus and how to get the most out of student government — whether it’s free football tailgate parties, concerts or barbeques. Because after a long day of lines and frustrations, knowing where to find free food can keep you from curling up in the fetal position when the vending machine rejects your dollar.
