Hearing people laugh and whisper as they walked past a poster advertising “The Vagina Monologues” was not surprising. The production was enlightening, poignant, and even had bits of humor, but was definitely not a joke.
The material focused on women and issues such as rape, mental and physical brutality, the neglect and poor treatment of women in the Middle East and more. They were subjects everyone should be aware of, especially living in the times that we do.
The monologues were written from the personal views of women and intended to open the eyes of everyone. By not hiding behind any politically correct statements, the bare essentials of the important topics focused on were bluntly put in the faces of the audience, causing the intense reactions they deserved.
“The Vagina Monologues” was something that not just anyone, but everyone should have been exposed to.
Hopefully the naí¿ve giggles the title on the posters created, resulted in enough curiosity to attend the play.
