After watching “The Vagina Monologues” performed at FAU, I can honestly say it is something not everyone should see. It’s a very frank, in-your-face insider’s look at relationships, life and the human body from a woman’s perspective.
The play is done by women for women. The mature, evolved man can take something valuable from the play as a lesson learned. On the other hand, there’s the immature male who isn’t there to be informed. The key thing to remember is this production is more Lifetime Channel, less Cinemax after dark.
The show touches on relevant issues such as rape, female circumcision and lesbianism. Oftentimes it is graphic in nature, but that just hits points home harder. The fact that it’s integrated with humor at times makes for an entertaining teaching method. This play is great for those who want to know the world around them, but it should be everyone’s individual decision.
