ead coach Charlie Partridge named redshirt sophomore Jason Driskel the starter for Florida Atlantic football’s season opener against Southern Illinois on Sept. 3.

The announcement came from the Florida Atlantic sports website late Tuesday afternoon.

The newly-named starter appeared in 10 games in 2015. He led the Owls to a touchdown in his first collegiate appearance against the University of Miami last September.

Coming up short against Driskel for the starting position was redshirt freshman Daniel Parr. Parr led Dwyer High School to a state title in his junior year. In his senior season he won the Class 7A Player of the Year award.

“I am proud of both quarterbacks and the entire football team for how they have handled the quarterback competition,” Partridge said in the news release. “The entire body of work from January until now has been taken into account to make the decision. As we approach game week, the recent performances were weighted more heavily.”

“We anticipate and expect both to continue to prepare and compete as if they were starting,” he continued. “Jason Driskel will be the starting quarterback versus Southern Illinois.”
