FAU hosting debate watch party in football stadium on Oct. 22

FAU is hosting watch parties for the last two presidential debates before the national election Nov. 6. The final debate is airing Monday, Oct. 22, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It will take place down the street from FAU’s Boca campus at Lynn University. FAU is hosting a free watch party in the FAU Football Stadium starting at 8:00 p.m that night. An Owl Card is required to enter, and students, faculty and staff are encouraged to bring blankets and towels to sit on the field while watching the debate on the Jumbotron monitor.President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney will answer questions related to foreign policy, asked by CBS’ Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer.

FAU’s Student Government, Resident Student Association, Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement, Program Board and the Division of Student Affairs are sponsoring the stadium watch party. Outside food, coolers, chairs and bags, however, will not be allowed.

The debate before that will be town-hall style, airing Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Obama and Romney will answer questions asked by citizens in the audience at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. The questions will be related to foreign and domestic policy alike.

According to the debate party event page, SG is giving away an iPad during the debate watch party.

“The tweet with the most insightful message about the debate will win an iPad,” according to the page. “The tweet must made between 9-10pm on October 22, 2012 with the hashtag #FAUvotes and the student must be inside the stadium when the winner is announced to receive the prize.”

As of publication time, SG President Robert Huffman could not be reached to explain how SG will decide which tweet is most insightful.
