Police Blotter

Profound profanity

Aug. 22, 2011 — 9:06 a.m.

Location: Innovation Village Apartments North

Three students thought it would be funny to write “Big Vainy Cock,” “Bitch,” and “Fuck you” on different resident room doors in IVA.

At approximately 8:50 a.m., resident hall coordinator Jennifer Kemp was notified by a resident student that multiple doors on the third floor had profanity written on them.

It wasn’t hard finding the perpetrators. At 10:00 a.m., employees of Balfour Beatty, who were making repairs in room 304, noticed the same writing on the back of the door and on the electrical panels. In 304’s room and kitchen, they found beer and liquor bottles.

All campus police had to do was play back the area’s security camera footage to find who did it.

The two students who lived in 304 were both under 21 and got student referrals for having liquor. Neighboring students told Kemp that one of 304’s residents and his girlfriend were the profane perpetrators.

The police investigation found that 304’s girlfriend wasn’t involved. Instead, it was a commuter student who was with the two residents.

The commuter accomplice fessed up to police, saying she was just trying to be funny and purposely used a dry erase marker so there wouldn’t be any damages.

She got a written trespassing notice for all FAU housing and got a student referral.

Lesson learned: Before you do something stupid on a drunken escapade, know that FAU is bombarded with hundreds of security cameras. Granted there isn’t someone watching your every move, but when incidents like this happen, all it takes is pinpointing the time frame and locating that camera’s video footage and “Boom,” you’re caught.

It’s all about location

Aug. 24, 2011 — 9:14 p.m.

Location: Parking lot 23, by parking meters

An FAU commuter student and a Palm Beach State College student were caught smoking pot in their parked car.

At first, campus police noticed the parked car with two males sitting in it. Then, they noticed the PBSC student holding a multicolored pipe in his hand, tokin’ it up.

The cop immediately went to the car and knocked on the window. When the window rolled down, a gust of smoke came out, giving the students up.

The PBSC student told police he had a small bag of weed in the driver’s door pocket and another glass pipe in a Domino’s pizza box in the back seat.

The FAU student didn’t have any weed on him, but confessed to smoking.

Instead of getting busted on criminal charges, they both got student referrals.

Lesson learned: Smoking pot is still very much illegal, but if you’re going to do it, do it right. Anyone can notice a parked car in an empty parking lot with two suspicious guys just sitting there. It wouldn’t take long for campus police to spot them out and check what they were up to.

Stinky substance

Aug. 28, 2011 — 2:21 a.m.

Location: Innovation Village Apartments North

An FAU resident student under the age of 21 was caught with pot and a bottle of Jim Beam Whiskey.

While an RA was doing his rounds, he noticed someone was smoking in their room. When he knocked on the door where it smelt the strongest, no one answered, but he could hear scurrying.

When police arrived to the scene there were four females in the room with the resident student. The resident told police his pot was locked away in a drawer. Along with the pot, police found a grinder, a pipe and a scale.

He was arrested and given a student referral. The females were all given trespassing notices.

Lesson learned: Smoking pot in the dorms is a big no no and a really dumb idea. Almost anyone can pinpoint where the smell is coming from and within seconds of lighting up a blunt, you could be caught. Getting high isn’t worth the risk of getting kicked out of housing, especially since you don’t get your money back.
