Women’s Basketball: FAU suffers heartbreaker behind game winner in San Antonio

February 12, 2016

The University of Texas at San Antonio escaped a thriller in San Antonio after forward Akunna Elonu hit a heartbreaking 3-point game-winner with 2.6 seconds remaining in a 57-54 loss. Headed into Thursday’s matchup, FAU (11-12, 3-9 C-USA) was looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the same UTSA (8-14, 4-8 C-USA) team that snapped a previous Owls four-game losing streak just a week and a half ago. The Roadrunners had other plans for FAU in a back and forth defensive battle where both teams grinded for every basket, shooting a combined 42-of-121.

Men’s Basketball: Owls record second win of season versus UTSA

February 12, 2016

For the first time since joining Conference USA, Florida Atlantic men’s basketball swept a conference opponent in a season series, beating the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners for the second time this year 79-73. The sweep, which also marks the first time that head coach Michael Curry has swept a conference opponent, comes after a two-game losing streak to Middle Tennessee State and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “You always want to take care of your home court,” Curry said. “If you have a team coming back here and you get them on their court and take care of your home, that two-gamer feels good.”

Men’s Basketball: Owls Use Total Team Effort to Down UTSA

January 23, 2016

Florida Atlantic men’s basketball’s 86-71 win against the UTSA Roadrunners was a milestone victory for Michael Curry who picked up his first conference road win of his tenure as head coach. The Owls (5-15, 3-4 C-USA) and Roadrunners (4-16, 2-5 C-USA) were both looking for their third conference win of the season heading into Saturday’s afternoon matchup. The Owls scored a season-high 86 points led by local Florida product freshman Jeantal Cylla, who contributed a team-high 22 points, reaching the 20-point mark for the second game in a row. Even more impressive was the total team effort put forth in Saturday’s performance on both ends of the floor.
