Women’s basketball: FAU drops heartbreaker to UTEP in defensive affair

After forcing the Miners into a contested 3-pointer, Florida Atlantic Women’s Basketball got the ball back with five seconds left on the clock with a chance to win the game. The ball was inbounded to junior Nika Zyryanova, who then found junior Sasha Cedeno in the corner with a pass.

Women’s basketball: FAU jumps to 2-0 after nail-biter against Indiana State

After trailing by four entering halftime, Indiana State jumped out to a 48-42 lead midway through the third quarter. Then the team ran into a pair of juniors on Kellie Lewis-Jay’s Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team.

Women’s Basketball: Old Dominion dominates Owls in loss

Florida Atlantic women's basketball got off to a rough start Thursday night, allowing a 7-0 Old Dominion run to begin the game. Things only got worse for the Owls (11-8, 3-5 Conference USA) before they lost the game 85-45. After a 3-pointer by redshirt sophomore forward Raven Doyle cut the lead to 19-10 with 2:40 left in the first quarter, the Monarchs (8-12, 4-4 Conference USA) went on another run — scoring 29 straight points while extending their lead to 48-10.

Women’s Basketball: Owls lose offensive shootout to Southern Mississippi

January 15, 2016

Florida Atlantic women’s basketball fought late to make a comeback, but was unable to contain the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles’ offense in Thursday night’s 89-80 loss. The scoring started early as the Owls (10-5, 2-2 Conference USA) and Southern Miss combined for 51 first quarter points. FAU struggled to keep up after allowing 22 points in the following two quarters. USM (9-6, 3-1 Conference USA) finished the game making 62.1 percent of its shots, including 7-of-11 from behind the three-point arc. The Owls made only 37.7 percent of their field goal attempts on the night.

Women’s Basketball: Owls lose big to Kansas State 102-53

The Kansas State University Wildcats jumped out to an early 17-6 lead in the first quarter, using that momentum on their way to a 102-53 victory over Florida Atlantic Women’s Basketball. The 102 points scored are the most by an Owls opponent since Feb. 13, 2003 when Campbell University beat them 107-90. The 49-point loss is the biggest margin of defeat since March of 2012, when FAU lost by 56 in a WNIT game to the University of South Florida. Kansas State (8-1) recorded 12 more rebounds, 12 more assists, five more steals and five more blocks than the Owls (5-2). They also outshot FAU making 54.9 percent of their field goals - 58.3 percent from three point range- compared to FAU’s 30.3 and 22.6 percent marks respectively.
