The first series of the year for the FAU Baseball was a successful one. With a 13-3 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Feb. 16, the Owls won the series 2-1.

Pitcher Drew Jackson picked up the win, allowing just three hits in five innings and striking out nine batters on the last game of the series Sunday, Feb. 16. Jackson gave up just one earned run on the day.

Notre Dame won convincingly over FAU in the first game of the series, on the afternoon of Feb. 15. In the 9-2 loss, the Owls left twelve men on base and managed just seven hits. Pitcher Austin Gomber totaled five strikeouts, but surrendered six earned runs in his first loss of the year.

In the second game of the series that night, it was FAU that won, this time by score of 16-6. FAU went through its entire batting lineup in the first inning, scoring four runs. The Owls scored nine runs in the first three innings, helped by four early Notre Dame errors. Two more Notre Dame errors in the fourth inning led to three more runs, and the rout was on.

Pitcher Cody Mizelle picked up his first win of the year and pitcher Jeremy Strawn also contributed four strong innings, allowed just one earned run. Catcher and team captain Levi Meyer had a very strong game as well going 5-7 in the second game and knocking in four runs.

FAU plays the University of Miami on Feb. 19, then plays another home series versus Monmouth University, from Feb. 21-23.
