FAU Hosts Food Bank with over 50 Local Organizations

Tonight, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m., Feed My Community will kick off their food bank –– which is being called the largest food drive in South Palm Beach.

The event will kick off with a showing of the 2012 documentary, “A Place at the Table,” at FAU’s University Theater, according to a press release dated Aug. 13.

“We believe this could be a great opportunity for people in Boca and Delray to learn more about this challenging problem in their own backyard, and begin to seek creative solutions that go beyond the distribution of canned goods to hungry families,” said Rev. Tom Tift of First United Methodist Church.

According a report by the Palm Beach county government, 2,509 individuals and families are homeless in Palm Beach County as of Jan. 23, 2013.

The food drive includes over 50 donors from Boca Raton and Delray Beach, according to the Sun Sentinel, and will take place between Sept. 9-15.

For information, visit FeedMyCommunity.net or call Mary Beth Tate at 561-395-1244.
