Sunday saw the first-ever professional soccer games in FAU Stadium's history when the Florida Cup brought a doubleheader featuring international professional teams. The preseason tournament, now in its second year, is nearly over. Atletico Mineiro is currently in first place after winning its game today and is now set up to win the cup for the first time in club history. For the first time in its history, the Florida Atlantic football stadium will host a doubleheader leg of the 2016 Florida Cup on Sunday, Jan. 17. Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians of Brazil will serve as the first match of the doubleheader, while Colombia’s Independiente Santa Fe and North American Soccer League (NASL) side Fort Lauderdale Strikers will meet in the second game. “We definitely like the location,” operations manager Gustavo Poliak said of the choice of venue. “The stadium is beautiful, we are right next to the beach and we are working to make a mutual relationship with the university for the future.”

Women's soccer ended their regular season with a trip to face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Thursday night, playing them to a scoreless tie in double overtime. The draw pushed the Owls’ unbeaten streak to seven games, their longest of the year.

Men’s soccer earned their second win of the season Wednesday night against University of North Florida, beating them 1-0. Before the game, the Owls (2-11-2) held their annual Senior Night. Midfielders Ramon Whittaker, Daniel Montoya, Ronald Garcia and defenders Patrick Darby and Michael Quinn all were honored before the game in a ceremony with their families.
