Following the Feb. 14 Parkland school mass shooting, the Boca House recognized the victims and their families with a recent resolution.
The legislation will be framed and presented to the Parkland community following Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s reopening next week. The House is communicating with city officials and school leadership to set up a date and time. The resolution will be presented either at the high school or at city hall.
It states: “the Florida Atlantic University Student Government shows support and offers condolences for the victims and their families of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.”
Written by House Rep. Noah Goldberg and Justin Baez, the resolution passed with a 31-0 vote.
Speaker Marianne Alex said the legislation was written Thursday, Feb. 15 so the House could vote on it at its weekly Friday meeting.
“This is the only time I am going to let the author speak about a bill during first reading,” Alex said.
