Football: Dixon named running backs coach, according to sources

Carl Pelini’s coaching staff might have another addition from Montana State.

Bobcats running backs coach Kerry Dixon will join Brian Wright (offensive coordinator) as the second Montana State coach to be added to FAU’s coaching staff in the last week, sources told owlaccess.com.

Dixon was the offensive coordinator at Division II Stillman before his time at Montana State. He also coached quarterbacks at Texas Southern in 2007 and Morgan State in 2008. Dixon’s playing career included stints at Baylor and Hampton as a quarterback.

Dixon would be replacing former FAU running backs coach Dave Serna, who held the role since 2005. Serna coached the two most productive rushers in Owls history, Charles Pierre (2004-2008) and Alfred Morris (2008-2011).

The running back position was a rare bright spot for the 1-11 Owls last season, as senior Alfred Morris ran for 1,186 yards with nine rushing touchdowns. Dixon’s running attack at Montana State last season ranked 16th in the FCS, averaging 212.2 yards per game.
