Boynton Beach police arrested then-FAU officer Jimmy Ho for the shooting of escort Sheri Deann Carter. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder and false imprisonment. He told police it was self-defense.

 
Feb. 1
While in custody, Ho resigned from his position as corporal.
 
Feb. 2
Ho had his first appearance in front of a judge. He was ordered to be held without bond, undergo mental evaluation and forbidden from contacting friends or family.
 
Feb. 3
Ho attempted suicide by trying to hang himself in his Palm Beach County jail cell.
 
Feb. 9
Sheri Deann Carter died at Delray Medical Center from her injuries. She was shot twice and was paralyzed below the waist. First degree murder was added to Ho’s charges.
 
April 8
There was a status check for Ho. He was not in court but state prosecutors said they planned to seek the death penalty.
 
May 31
Ho had another status check. He was not in court again, but the judge granted more time to prepare for the case. The trial date was set for Aug. 12.
 
Aug. 12
Ho’s court date was pushed back until Oct. 6.
