As of Jan. 11, FAU fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) was released from a year-long suspension.
Nicholas Letteri, a SigEp brother, was kidnapped on Oct. 17, 2009, from his on-campus apartment by the chapter’s vice president and taken to a house where he was tied up and hazed. The next day he was brought to Boca Raton Community Hospital due to massive alcohol consumption.
A disciplinary conference held on Jan. 11, 2010, suspended the fraternity for a year. A mutual agreement was signed by associate dean of students Terry Mena and Marcus Nielsen, student representative for the SigEp Xi chapter on campus.
The agreement includes a suspension, membership review plan, disciplinary probation, a chapter reorganization plan, monthly meetings and reports.
“We’re working with the national office currently on conducting trainings over the next week for those members who are returning to the chapter,” said Ryan O’Rourke, Greek Life coordinator.
