43 candidates vie to be FAU president

NEWS

If all goes according to plan, FAU’s sixth president will be selected in less than 12 days.

Forty-three candidates from the U.S., Sweden, Canada and Australia have applied for the top job at FAU. Former president Frank T. Brogan resigned in September to become the chancellor of the State University System, where he now oversees Florida’s 11 public universities.

The final list of applicants (see below) — released on FAU’s Presidental Search Web site on Feb. 16 — has links to each candidate’s application letter and résumé.

The FAU Board of Trustees (BOT) — an 11-member board tasked with making the top university decisions — has appointed an 11-member search committee to narrow down this list. They will meet Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the BOT Room (ADM 305) of the Boca campus admin building to select the semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will come to campus two days later to be interviewed by the committee. The finalists will then visit four of FAU’s seven campuses on the following Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the BOT will meet to interview and select a president.

BOT and search committee chair Nancy Blosser says the applicant list offers a “good variety of candidates with different strengths.”

Blosser says the university is looking for a candidate from a “strong academic instruction,” who is a good fundraiser, and who has a “knowledgeable appreciation for research.”
