Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor
Everything you want — even the kitchen sink

The flashing red, white and yellow sign at Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor draws you to the ice cream like a moth to a flame. This little Dania Beach spot has stayed open and family-owned for 53 years by serving its delicious treats in unique ways.

Their 36 flavors of ice cream, made in-house daily, can be served in a goblet, a 32-ounce float, on top of a pound cake, on a made-to-order waffle and even in a kitchen sink.

Their famous one-of-a-kind “kitchen sink” is made for parties of four or more who pick their favorite flavors, which are then scooped into an actual miniature sink. Then, the professionals behind the counter go to town with the toppings, such as whipped cream, hot fudge and sprinkles.

The treats aren’t the only things to stare at in amazement. The interior of Jaxson’s is covered from top to bottom in what they call “early American disaster” decor. License plates line the walls, unique fixtures light up the room and an assortment of antiques fill up any bare wall space left.

Sonny’s Gelato Cafe
Brogan & Stallone’s favorite spot

For a popular student hangout, Sonny’s Gelato Cafe in Boca has a variety of patrons. FAU President Frank T. Brogan is a frequent visitor, and owner Sonny Lombardo claims to see his fair share of the famous.

“Sylvester Stallone came through the drive-through a couple days ago,” Lombardo says.

Sonny’s makes over 40 different flavors of gelato, which is an Italian variation of ice cream. The tasty treat also boasts that it’s healthier for you than regular ice cream because they don’t use preservatives, cream, artificial flavors or food coloring.

There are all those traditional flavors that you would expect them to have, like mint chocolate, but they also make specialty batches with flavors like whiskey, Parmesan cheese and olive oil.

This family-run business of eight years also serves a menu of genuine Italian foods, including panini sandwiches and subs. The desserts are homemade by Mama Lombardo, Sonny’s mother, and the cakes are imported straight from Italy.
