Watching History

On Jan. 20, the Student Union and Coyote Jack’s was packed with hundreds of students and faculty gathered together to watch the historical inauguration of President Barack Obama.

“It really takes me back to the JFK inauguration,” FAU President Frank Brogan says. “I was little, in elementary school. I came from a very Catholic upbringing and he was the first Catholic president. Just like Obama, he was the first of his kind.”

Brogan is a Republican who served as lieutenant governor under Florida Gov. Jeb Bush but he took in the excitement given off by the students’ cheers and applause during Obama’s oath into office.

Apple pie was given out with a lunch order, but it was all gone half way through the party because Coyote Jack’s didn’t expect the large turnout.

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America: They will be met.”
-Barack Obama
