Put on your thinking caps, kids, because this Friday the Progressive Nation Tour hits The Fillmore in Miami to provide a night of pure technical ecstasy surely not to be missed. The tour features, hands down, the best of the best in the odd-time, guitar noodling genre.
Progressive metal stalwarts Dream Theater headline the bill and feature some of the best musicians in rock music. Anyone who reads Guitar World or Modern Drummer knows who I’m talking about.
In addition, everyone’s favorite Swedish death metal virtuosos, Opeth, will be bringing their unique blend of metal and ’70s progressive rock to the stage. Rounding out the bill will be North Carolina’s own Between the Buried and Me, who’ll no doubt bring out the hipster scene kids but also rock your socks off in the process.
So if you can scrounge enough change in your sleeveless jacket pockets for gas money to Miami, you’re good to go. The only problem will be trying to head bang to all the different time signatures.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater(1700 Washington Ave. Miami Beach). Tickets range from $36.50 to $66.50 and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.
