If the taste of free food wasn’t sweet enough, FAU brings in pretty new cars for dessert.
The Ed Morse Scion Challenge is parking itself here at FAU and will take place on April 3 in front of the SO Building on the Boca campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is going to have new Scion cars that will range from functional and practical vehicles to artsy “suit up” cars that students can view. The event also provides free food from Outback Steakhouse.
There will also be lots of activities where students can get free promotional gear and prizes like the GPS Tomtom. Senior Michaelle Serreno, the Director of Marketing for the Synergy Group, hopes that students are geared up for the challenge.
“It’s going to be an exciting event, once in a lifetime,” she says.
Along with Scion, FAU’s class-made marketing company, The Synergy Marketing Group, is hosting the event. The marketing course, taught by Professor Robert Ciraldo, has been going on for seven years and has always hosted spring events. Professor Ciraldo says that the class is beneficial for students who want to enter the marketing field.
“The class teaches students to promote a product and how to create and implement an event using real clients,” Ciraldo says.
In the past, the car companies used were General Motors, Toyota, and Chevrolet. This year, the event will be sponsored by what the Synergy Marketing Group describes as a more modern and youthful company. Professor Ciraldo feels that Scion will attract more college students then last year’s Chevrolet event, which brought close to 1,000 people. The Ed Morse Scion dealership in Delray has been a part of several different projects at FAU in the past, mostly with the Theatre department, but is excited about its new partnership with Event Marketing. Scion’s New Car Director Jeff Stewart feels that this collaboration is just the start.
“[This is] a great opportunity to get the name out,” Stewart says. “The car is demographically designed towards teens and young adults.”
