The UP wanted to take the time to address some of the points Professor Michael Zager brings up in his letter to the editor.
1. Zager disputes the UP’s use of Hoot Records as its name and says the official name is Hoot/Wisdom Recordings. On Hoot’s official Web site it says, “Florida Atlantic University started a student-operated record label called Hoot Recordings.” Hoot Recordings is also the headline at the top of their home page and is incorporated into their logo. Nowhere does it say “Hoot/Wisdom Recordings.”
2. In Zager’s original letter that he sent to the UP, it stated that they had produced four CDs. However, in his corrected version, he states they have released five CDs. On their Web site, they have zero albums released and under each artist, it lists “coming soon.”
3. Only one of the four artists listed on their Web site, The People Upstairs, is listed by Zager as having an album produced. The UP would like to point out that at least two of the other albums listed by Zager were recorded by FAU faculty members: the chair of the music department, Heather Coltman and Communication Instructor Caren Neile. Those two albums, along with the other three listed by Zager, are nowhere to be found on their Web site.
4 Zager states that Ron Eisner selected all of the bands that performed for the Student Union Music Series. Student Coordinator Kasia Kielbasa told the UP that student coordinators selected the bands and received input from Eisner.
