BOCA RATON, FL (October 26, 2006) – On October 12th, SGA co-sponsored Career Day which had 142 businesses and approximately 800 students overall attended. Companies were recruiting students from all the colleges. It was a very successful event. Moreover, Semko Monroc, previous Student Government Governor for the Broward Campus, came back to FAU to recruit for his company. Currently, he is the Senior Accountant for Enterprise Car Rentals. Kirk Murray, Student Body President, said “It was an honor seeing a former Student Government official back at FAU”.
Student Government officials and Campus Recreation (a department of SGA) have been working hard to put together the Recreation & Wellness Center Project on the Boca Raton campus. SGA has allocated 6 million dollars toward this cause. This semester, the final design phase will be completed and next year the construction will begin. The project includes a fitness center, gymnasium, group fitness studios, juice bar and locker rooms. The expected project completion date is April 2008.
This venture will meet the recreation and fitness needs of FAU students and serve as the new focal point of campus life. The Recreation & Wellness Center will continue to add to the quality of campus life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and bring another element of social opportunities in a positive, fitness-oriented environment. Located at the Northeast entrance of the Breezeway, the Center will be the first premiere showcase facility adjacent to the new Lee Street. Its location will allow for easy access for both on-campus and commuter students.
In addition, SGA sponsored refreshments for the International Students Office for an Information Session they had regarding work permits, visas and so on. The purpose of this event was to educate international students on the steps they can take after graduation. It was an effective and efficient approach to provide choices to the international students. Two immigration lawyers, from Miami, gave a presentation and answered many of the students’ inquiries.
Furthermore, this weekend is FAU’s Homecoming Game against Arkansas State, where Student Government will be sponsoring a tailgate with the Program Board. Kickoff will be at 4PM, free transportation will be available at the various campuses. Come out and support the FAU Owls!!!
