The Department of Music in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present the United States Marine Band in a free concert on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will take place in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium at the University Center (UC) on the Boca Raton Campus.
“We are very lucky to be able to host such a prestigious organization,” said Kyle Prescott, assistant professor in the Department of Music at FAU. “Our students will have a chance to not only see but also work with some very talented musicians.”
The United States Marine Band was established in 1798 and is America’s oldest professional music organization. The band has performed at every presidential inauguration since Thomas Jefferson and continues to play at all important state events at the White House and around Washington, D.C.
The band started touring in 1891 under the director John Philip Sousa. They perform around the country on a set schedule, visiting the southeastern states every five years.
Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets may be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with the number of requested tickets (limit four per household) to the University Bands Department of Music. Ticket holders must be seated by 7:15 p.m. If additional seats are still available, non-ticket holders will be admitted.
