The FAU women’s soccer team, in its final home games of the season, gave FAU something to cheer about on Friday, October 15 and Sunday, October 17, winning games against Jacksonville and Stetson, respectively.
In Friday’s game, the Lady Owls defeated Jacksonville by the score of 4-0. Katri Nokso-Koivisto scored FAU’s first goal, in the ninth minute of play. She also scored at the 81-minute mark, with an assist by Susanna Lehtinen. Danielle DiLio also notched her third goal of the season, and Monique Cabrera scored her first goal as a member of the team.
Two days later, in a match against Stetson University, the team registered its eighth shutout with a 2-0 victory. Michelle Fazzari registered the game’s first score in the 71st minute, with an unassisted goal. Nokso-Koivisto scored the last goal of the game with less than a minute to play, her ninth of the season. The win improves FAU’s record to 9-3-3, and 6-2-1 in conference games. The victory was also Coach Brian Dooley’s 125th career win.
As a result of these two victories, the Lady Owls have racked up a few impressive statistics: they have not lost since September 23; going unbeaten in eight games. They have also held their opponents scoreless in six of their last seven games.
One week from today, the women’s soccer team will compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, for a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
