On Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, FAU’s men’s soccer team traveled to Miami, Fl and left with a 2-0 victory over #25 nationally-ranked FIU in the 27th game between the two schools. This victory is only the third over the Golden Panthers in program history. The Owls improved their season record to three wins and only one loss, while FIU drops to 2-3.
In the 74th-minute of play, Josh Garbee scored to break the scoreless tie and put the Owls up for good, 1-0. Nearly three minutes later, Bjorn Totland received a pass from Rustin Kluge to give the Owls a 2-0 lead to add the exclamation point to the game.
FAU goalkeeper Anders Grandstad only had to make three saves to ensure the shutout. Kristoffer Aarskog, who received a yellow card in the first ten minutes of play, led all players with four shots, as FAU out-shot the Golden Panthers 16-11. The series record now stands at 23-3-1 in favor of FIU. The two schools will not meet again this season.
