From April 1 through April 20, the Free Speech Lawn will be FAU’s center for the American Democracy Project. FAU will join more than 150 universities across the U.S. in an effort to promote civic and political activities among students.
The project will be initiated by the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, which will put on bi-weekly “Speakers’ Corner Debates.” Debates will be presented by students, then they will have a period for questions and answers will follow. The debates are aimed at training students in logical argumentation and reasoning in hopes of promoting intelligent free speech on campus.
The debates will be every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. The Free Speech Lawn is between General Classroom South and the Social Science building.
