Florida Atlantic University Owls (2-2) at Texas State Bobcats (2-1)
FAU run offense vs. TSU run defense
The Owls are much improved in the rushing game and the Bobcats are giving up over 200 yards a game, so this could be a breakout game for FAU. Averaging 86 yards-a-game is no big feat, but the Owls know that at any time one of their backs can break a long one. The ball carrying has been divided pretty equally, so do not look for that to change.
Edge: FAU
FAU pass offense vs. TSU pass defense
Jared Allen is having a career year and TSU’s defense better be on top of their game when they come to town. With Bynes catching almost everything thrown his way and Crissinger-Hill also impressive, the Owls can do no wrong throwing the ball. The Bobcats have only two interceptions on the year, so turnovers will probably be scarce.
Edge: FAU
TSU run offense vs. FAU run defense
While TSU is averaging 150 yards-a-game on the ground, the Owls are looking like the stingiest run defense in football. Led by Chris Laskowski, the Owls pride themselves on stopping the run and playing at home will definitely get this defense pumped up.
Edge: FAU
TSU pass offense vs. FAU pass defense
This could be the only weakness for the Owls. FAU’s secondary has been burned badly twice by quarterbacks this year and they will not get a break against Barrick Nealy. Nealy, a transfer from the University of Houston, has averaged 328 yards a game. The bright side is that Nealy has thrown 11 interceptions in four games so FAU should be looking for some picks.
Edge: TSU
Special teams
TSU has not seen too much in the return game, but neither has FAU. The deciding factor in this department still is that Andy Rosas is one of the best punters in the country and Mike Myers is automatic on field goals.
Edge: FAU
Intangibles
The biggest plus for FAU is that they are playing at home for the first time in four weeks so the crowd should be excited to see them. On the other hand, the biggest plus for TSU is that this is an away game and the Owls are 5-7 at home in their short history. Schnellenberger has said that this year he feels like a coach again so the deciding factor goes to FAU.
UP-Staff Prediction
TSU will put up points against FAU but their defense will not be able to stop the Owls. As long as FAU does not play poorly because they are at home, this should be an easy win for the Owls.
